Hampstead is a town in Rockingham County. The population was 8,523 at the 2010 census. Hampstead also includes the village of East Hampstead.
Once part of Haverhill and Amesbury, Massachusett, it was settled in 1640 and was formed as a result of the 1739 decision fixing the boundary line between Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
The town has a total area of approx. 14.0 square miles, of which 4,93% is water. Big Island Pond is in the west (and is also in Derry and Atkinson), with Angle and Wash ponds in the north.
Hampstead Central School and Hampstead Middle School are in town, which handle school children up to 8th grade, and then students attend Pinkerton Academy for high school.
